One team from Germany and one from Israel were awarded the prizes for their contributions about the other country. The competition was held to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the state of Israel. At the beginning of 2008 MC developed the film competition on behalf of the German government. The competition took part in both states and aimed to encourage young film-makers to present their thoughts to the historic relations between the two countries. Special emphasis was put on the promotion of the German-Israeli dialogue. MC took charge of the complete implementation of the competition, including the design of the graphical elements and the organisation of the award ceremony.
Amongst the Israeli up-and-coming filmmakers, Dafi Mekel and Galit Hinon from the film school “Jump Cut – Professional School for Editors and Animation” in Tel Aviv were awarded. Their contribution “Why Berlin?” presents their experiences that they made while living in the German capital. The report “Zum Glück gewannen wir ihn nicht – Deutsche Freiwillige in Israel” („Fortunately we didn’t win it – German volunteers in Israel“) by the team Wolfram Huke and Franziska von Malsen-Ponickau from the Film and TV School Munich came out as winner under the German contributions. It presents the life of two youngsters who provide their voluntary service in Israel for the Action Reconciliation Service for Peace.
